Johan, a valued and dearly loved friend, brother, son and colleague, is still denied his rights to life and freedom while being held in the notorious Evin Prison in Iran.

 

He was detained at Tehran airport on 17 April 2022 while returning to the EU from a journey with friends. 

 

He has now spent over 550 days in harsh, extremely restrictive conditions, denied basic human rights, without charge. Over 300 of these were spent in solitary confinement/total isolation.

 

Passionate about the cultures and history of the Middle East, Johan traveled widely in the region, studying languages, visiting historic sites, and supporting EU-endorsed humanitarian projects in Iran. His friends and family desperately need him home again.

 

The #FreeJohanFloderus campaign has only just begun, and the path to bringing Johan back to Europe will be long.
